EcoReserve is an environmental nonprofit startup based in San Francisco. Our mission is to restore and protect endangered land, support sustainable livelihoods, and spawn a new grassroots movement for individual land conservation by providing an engaging online platform for individuals of any means to create their own private nature reserves around the world. Our website uses the Google Maps API, high resolution aerial imagery, and robust educational and social networking features to create a close, personal experience of connecting with land and people far away. Our first reserve is on 5,000 acres in the Panamanian rainforest.

This is a unique startup that is being built almost entirely by volunteers (although the CTO is a FT paid position). We have 50+ volunteers working on the project, including Sterling Udell, author of "Beginning Google Maps Mashups with Mapplets, KML, and GeoRSS." Our corporate sponsor Organic has contributed a beautiful design for the site and our corporate sponsor Cogniance has completed the architecture and engineering infrastructure. Web functions are mapped out, and functional specs are being developed.
